Hi Friends, I'm Lauren. I've got this Marineland 24" Cube 60gal tank. Bottom drilled with a stand. This is my first sump tank, although I'm not new to reefing. I got into reefing when I was a 9th grader in 2009-2010, and here I am at 25. Needless to say, I'm absolutely lost. Currently have a reef jar, and a 13.5 Fluval evo running. Want to put the fluval into the 60, but am hoping to setup as low priced with great equipment possible. I'm looking at AI prime for the tank. Was going to get two AI Prime 16's, but also thinking the 32 wouldn't be so bad. The only benefit to running 2 16's is I could move them as far apart as I wanted. Sand I am looking at special grade. I currently have Oolite Ocean direct in the fluval and hate it. I basically move in the tank and the whole thing decides to stir up and is a total disaster. It blows around too much, so pretty set on the special grade as I think the natural reef sand may be too thick, but if you could find comparison pictures as well that would be fantastic. Wanting to breed my clowns, so may not add a ton more fish, but was looking at a goby. I have a fire shrimp, two ocellaris clowns and then inverts.

Skimmer and Sump and Plumbing are going to be my biggest expenses and also what I am most ignorant about. I have NO IDEA what to do here. The inside of the stand is 23x23ish, but the door to get the sump through is only 17wide by 23 high, the whole backside of the stand is open so I suppose I could slip it in through the backside and then move the stand back, however that would be a total pain if something were to go wrong. I also don't know anything at all about return pumps and how to set the sump up. For powerhead's I was thinking Tunze 6020 or somewhere around there. For the heater I'd like to do an Eheim as that's what I've used and enjoyed most recently with no issues, unsure of what wattage to purchase though, thinking somewhere around the 300 mark though. I will post pictures of the tank and stand, where it is drilled, and the plumbing it came with. When I brought it in from the car my friend set it how he set it. I understand the overflow does not go how it is placed now. It is simply set like that because it is being stored in the living room right now. I also recently thought the glass was cracked, but I talked to the lfs where I purchased the tank, and we think it is glue from the overflow. I am getting some new razor blades to check, but you can only feel the spot you will see in pictures on the inside of the tank and not on the lower part (inside the stand). Guys, I'm so lost with where to even begin with this tank, other than I don't want to spend a complete TON of money on it. I also feel I am at a disadvantage because I'm a girl so some of this plumbing and sump stuff feels a little over my head (Hence why I am an AIO type of girl). I will end the post here and add pictures to hopefully help guide you for help. I've been looking at the Icecap 15 for my sump, but am also looking online at the dry goods on this forum for stuff I can use. Hope everyone is well and staying safe out there.

Lauren

Plumbing isn't bad at all, have you done much research on it? Premade sumps get expensive, but you can look into baffle kits from different companies that will fit tanka you can get from Petco's dollar per gallon sales. I used Fijicube baffles in my 40g sump, but a 10g would probably be the only pre-made tank you could use as a sump.

A bit more expensive, but an option.

+1 on all of this. I was actually gonna suggest the same sump.
