It appears my Lavenders tang has injured its top fin. This fish is/was 100% flawless, and healthy. I’m guessing from wedging it’s self in the rocks.

Catching him won’t be easy and I’m concerned may cause more stress. It is eating just fine, swimming just fine, and roaming around like absolutely nothing is wrong.

Is there any medications I could add to foods to help heal him? BUT, something that is reef safe because again, I may not be able to remove it. So feeding the tank as normal would be super easy.

It just happened a few hours ago, but I’d like to get a jump on it! Again, it’s a very healthy and still very active...like nothing is wrong.

Thanks!

Seachem stress guard might be handy. Something like vitachem or some healthy foods like good pellets/flakes may help. As long as he doesn't get some sort of infection it should be fine.

I would observe, for now. A healthy tang is a tank. I've had one inch long gashes from fighting, and they just shake it off and heal. Whatever you have done up until now is working for this tang to be strong and healthy, so I'd just watch.

Oral antibiotics need to be dosed as mg antibiotic per kg of fish weight, so not really possible in a case like this. I've seen tangs recover from pretty serious injuries, as @artieg1 has said.

I think you might do more harm trying to catch it then your treatment will likely benefit it. Look up some pictures of bacterial skin disease of fish to give you something to watch for. I think it is unlikely to happen, but if it looks like progression, reconsider your risk/benefit. Otherwise, I would look for the other guy and how bad that one looks.

Thanks everyone, everything stated is kinda what I’ve been thinking, it’s just always good to get more opinions, which I appreciate.

Just wanted to update this thread.

To be honest I ended up not really doing much. I didn’t change anything except maybe added a few extra feedings here and there. I knew she was healthy to begin with so I just kept up with my normal diverse diet. No medications, supplements, etc; nothing.

A good healthy diet, and a happy environment, healed this scenario.

Thanks again everyone!

She’s beautiful! If my Sally Sailfin keeps starting tango tang w/my Yellow Tang her name will be Scar lol (Re:Battlestar Galactica)
