Anyone have one here? If so how well behaved are they and what size tank do you have it in? Im thinking this will be my last addition to my 90 gallon reef which will be several months away, but I want to make sure this is the one I want for the 90 before planning my other fish. I have done research and the tank size ranges from 75-125 for this fish so im kinda small side but I have plenty swimming room and several hiding places.

I hate em, but I'm biased. I had one that beat the hell out of a 5 inch blue spot goby. Did not play well with others. Ended up giving the fish away.

If added last would that not help with that though?? I think they are a great looking fish. What would recommend for a 90 gallon? Will only have one tang total.

I wonder if they all would be that way? I know some people have no trouble with certain fish and others have all kinds of trouble.

And that's where the issues come in. Which temperament are you going to get? Only way to know for sure is to try and hope for the best on that certain fish.

In the end it comes down to if it's a risk you're ready to take.

A Kole tang is a good choice for a 90. HTey don't get too big and they are great glass cleaners. Also usually quite peaceful. Or a Scopas, again don't get overly large and very good algae eaters.

What about a chevron or atlantic blue? would they be good options also? I want to have about three to choose from as options.

Chevrons are great for that size tank, but they do lose all their cool colors as they age. The Atlantic blue is the same as the lavendar, it will be aggressive, and honestly a 90 isnt big enough for it.

Thanks guys i think i will just stick with the smaller less aggresive like the kole or the other small bristle tooth. Long ways away anyway, will wait and see what color i need.

Have you considered a Chevron Tang they are beautiful fish when young and really clean your rocks of algae very well. I will be adding one last to my tank as my only Tang.
Bill

I have Bill that is one of my favorites. I also like the square tail, the tomini, and the white tail. I am just going to see what colors I need when the tank is stocked and go from there. Waiting 3-4 weeks between additions of fish so I will be a while.

I'm glad I found this thread as I fell in love with a lavender tang while in LA last week. I planned on adding one but has second thoughts now.

Speaking of different aggression in different fish... My hippo tang is pretty mean and my six-line wrasse is a model citizen. Seems opposite of what I've heard from just about everyone.

I agree with everyone else though, kole tang!

I think there are always exceptions in fish. Each and every one has its own personality. The lavender is a beautiful fish.

I agree. And in two weeks I'll be ordering a Lavender and testing it out. I've already got a supplier with two in hand. $85 shipped. Not too bad if you ask me.
