Hi guys.

I'm looking for some advice on a lawnmower blenny in a 30g tank. Any advice is welcome. I have 2 clowns and a royal gramma in the tank at the moment.

Hi guys.

How established is the tank?

Do you have a decent amount of rocks with algae for it to graze on? They’re among the more obligate microalgae eaters and many won’t eat nori.

My profile picture is my tank at the moment. I had cyano problem, sorted that now have a little bit of hair algae growing. Was looking to get a new addition and seems my tank is to small for a tang. I taught a lawnmower would go well in the mix. Do they eat algae pellets. My tank is up and running 6 months. I upgraded last January.

I've noticed mine eats a good amount of film algae off the glass. Since I've gotten it I've really noticed how much cleaner the glass looks. It does cruise the rocks as well, unfortunately it doesnt eat any hair algae. I've read that they eat detritus as well but haven't seen it do that.

My experience with my lawn mower blenny for the last nine months in my 60g. For the first 3-4 months he would only eat film algae mostly off the glass and pick at rocks. Wouldn’t even pay attention to Nori or any frozen carnivore foods like mysis, brine, krill. Then one day he tried a krill and since then he eats all my frozen foods from above. Still picks film algae doesn’t tough nori. He even eats red flake food. Dustin

Have you considered Margarita Snails? They cleaned my tank right up!

Ditto on the previous comment, my blenny eats mysis, pellets, just about anything I put in the tank.

I have a couple of lawnmower blennies, one in a Reefer 425 and one in my Reefer 170. I have a black comb tooth blenny in my IM 20 gallon. All awesome fish with a lot of personality. I add Nori every other day rubber banded to a rock. They all eat the nori, and eat algae off rocks and the glass. They also eat Rods frozen food. An orange spot blenny is an alternative that looks different as well.

I had one and I swear he got so fat and happy in QT eating Seaweed Extreme that when he finally made the DT, he was so lazy and would just wait to be fed the pellets instead of mowing the proverbial lawn.

I got lawnmower blenny for my 24 gallon aio with pair of clowns and mystry wrass. It did great job with hair algae and bryopsis. They all get along fine. Mystery will go into my 150 in the near future.
