Hey friends!
I’m setting up for a 55 gallon live upgrade soon, probably sometime near Christmas and I wanted to stock a Lawnmower blenny in there. Really cute fellas, my LFS has one in their 400 gallon display tank that chases you around.

I’m not really trying to get him for the utility, if I wanted that I’d just buy a bunch of ceriths and call it a day. I want him for the personality.

What types of algae are their favorites to eat? I doubt they’ll touch cyano or that gross stringy hair algae. Really any of the bacterials I doubt they’ll bother with.

Do they eat Ulva and Nori like Tangs? If so will they avoid display macros?

I just hear stories of them starving out in tanks. I want to make sure he lives happy.

[Additionally, you guys want to criticize my stocking for me?
Clarkii Pair
This Guy
Coral Banded shrimp Pair
(And maybe an eventual domino or 4 stripe damsel. I’m after the body shape of a domino damsel, so if you know something with less aggression tell me.)]
Thanks!

I find that lawnmower blennies like hair algae (I assume when it’s short), I agree with the bacteria bit, IME they don’t touch display macros, but I think if you get as much different algae species as you can he will pick which he likes the most!!

Okie doke. Thanks!

It took a while but mine now chows on flakes and pellets. He does his usual rummaging the entire tank.

After a bit of acclimation, they will eat anything. They love algae, even film algae on the tank. They also will eat algae sheets added. But mine will chomp down on any food I give them. Loves frozen mysis.

I always have one in my large tank. Love the personalities and they get sooooo fat. Great fish. This was shortly after introduction. He/she is very chunky now. Loved to swing on the algae sheet feeder.
