I added a sea hare to my tank a little over a month ago to deal with what I considered a moderate GHA problem. He has since cruised the sand bed and the bottom few inches of the glass eating film algae. I has placed him in beautiful patches of GHA and he promptly slides off the rocks and back to the sand. What gives? I read all these posts about sea hares taking care of GHA in short order. Well now i have a pretty big problem no thanks to Slimer. Do you think a dose of Fluconazole will be a bad thing for the sea hare? I assume if it kills the GHA I will rehome home him and not tell the lucky recipient about his apparent aversion to GHA.

Sometimes the sea hair wont eat the longer stands of gha. If you make them shorter the gha will be more edible

Mine prefers the sand over the rocks as well. As suggested I'd definitely trim it down and see if it helps. I have a thin red hair nuisance algae and the sea hare crushes it.

Mine died right after I dosed fluconazole so get rid of him first if you go that route. The flux didn’t work for me either (It came back). Best I’ve had is vibrant weakens it enough so I can scrub it off the rock. I do a patch each week. It’s sort of keeping it under control.

My seahare is all over my tank. Corals rocks filters powerheads it's just all over

Alright well I have been mowing the lawn as much as I can and he still seems to prefer whatever he is munching off the sand. I guess I’ll give him some more time and take a brush to the worst rocks to see if he becomes more interested.

Do you have any mexican turbos in your system? They also love algae and aren't afraid of rocks.

Yeah its hit or miss on all the CUC members I'm finding.
I have copperband butterfly fish in my sump and destroys everything living. Aiptasia, Majano, Bivalves, Fan worms basically anything it can munch on but them you hear some people cant get them to eat Aiptasia or eat at all.
Same goes for sea hares, turbos basically anything is hit or miss.
I'd stick with the natural non chemical way and find the right fit for your system that works.
My mexican turbos love my red hair nuisance algae but wont touch my sand and prefer the rocks and edges more.
My sea hare just grazes the bottom like a sand and side sifting lawnmower and dumps piles of grazed sand as it goes lol.

Just kinda have to see what works in your system. Dont let anyone steer you off course if you have a gut feeling run with it.
I wasn't supposed to add sea hare but I did and glad I did because it was the missing piece to my puzzle.
