I was going to purchase polyethylene tubing for a return line and noticed that the warning label stated that it contained more than .25% lead. This tubing was the white corrugated tubing that you might use for a swimming pool or bilge pump.

I did a search and it appears that "some" clear vinyl tubing also contains small amounts of lead and as such should not be used for food grade applications.

This is not to say that all vinyl tubing contains lead, but we should be aware of what it is we are buying.

Lead hasn't Been used in polyurethane for the last 16 years

Here is the warning label - Decide for yourself.

The warning for the vinyl tubing stated "The wetted surface of this product contacted by consumable water contains less than one quarter of one percent (0.25%) of lead by weight."

Well here in oz they don't allow lead based products to be used as it is EPA ( environmental protection agency) law

That does not mitigate the concern those living outside of oz* may have with these types of products.

* Whatever that means

I was looking around at Home Depot this weekend and noticed a label on the clear tubing that said lead free

If it's been 15 years since lead was allowed why put lead free on the label in 2014?

No in Australia our laws a different cause of EPA standards
