A long story I 'll make short. I want to hang a screen (vertically) in my refugium. A screen like one would use for an ATC. Said screen keeps floating up to the water surface. I tried zip stripping a small diameter PVC to the bottom of the screen . So now it's growing HA & wants to float. The water enters this ref from the bottom creating an upwelling of the water flow. The screen ,now clogged with HA won't let the water flow thru forcing it to the surface. So I want to superglue or silicon couple of small lead barrel fishing weights inside this pvc pipe. will the lead poison the water over time?
I can find other things to use but looking for the easy way out !

Two thoughts....

1. Epoxy coat the lead weights.

2. Fill CPVC pipe with lead shot and then seal the pipe with two end caps. Zip tie this to the screen.

Don’t leave exposed lead in your tank. As someone who has done a lot of saltwater fishing I can tell you lead left in saltwater does cause a reaction. Normally the lead will get a white coating on it. I would imagine this would be a big problem in an aquarium.

I can’t picture what your doing but If the screen gets clogged and stays submerged won’t you have a flow blockage?

Thanks ,didn't take me long to learn it wasn't a good idea !
John, my refugium want's to grow HA not chaeto. So I thought I'd hang a screen in it just to see what happens. Hey, HA would be a good nutrient export so why not? Just an experiment. Thanks for the reply's. I'll fill it with sand & cap,see if that works. prob is I have to go to the store & buy some caps ! Hey I'm old & lazy ! ;)

I ended up going to the HD & buying a couple of caps.I then cut a ,length of all thread I had ,put it in inside the pipe & sealed it up with pvc cement. The screen hangs vertically now ! Turned out heavier than anticipated. AS I was saying earlier, the refugium on this new 180 wants to grow HA instead of Chaeto. There is a small ball of chaeto in there also. It is very dense & green but not growing, been in there for 5 months at least ! So I was trying to either hinder the HA from growing which may allow the chaeto to take off or take advantage of it & try a sort of ATS kinda? LOL
I lined the inside of the ref with white ,plastic cardboard . I thought the white might reflect some light back into the space. The screen is growing Ha on it & there is hardly any on the plastic( Ha seems to have a prob attaching to this stuff ) I'm open to any Op's on how to improve this. Thanks.

Now that the screen is weighed down I can put a power head in there to move the water around. I may try a horizontal screen, diagonal etc . It's an experiment to see what happens !
