Leaellynasaura's 135g reef/fish tank thread

I set up the RO/DI system last night.

I started on the plumbing for the tank/sump/filters and put together a final list of plumbing supplies needed. I also revised the plumbing plan slightly, but will probably not post a new drawing. I am still trying to find a stand on craigslist or something for my 20 gallon quarantine tank so I can set it up.

I started working on my coral quarantine tank today. I made the frag shelf out of egg crate light diffuser. I made some mistakes, but I still barely had enough material to finish it.

I have sourced for this tank the following equipment:

  • Eheim 75 watt heater
  • Fluval C3 power filter
  • generic digital thermometer
  • Hydor Nano 240 gph power head
  • SBLights sBox 16' (basic) LED light
I plan to use the 76 day quarantine I saw in an article here.

Here is a followup video of the one I made for setting up my coral quarantine tank:

Here is an update for my two quarantine tanks :)

The Goniopora has been in there just over 2 weeks and has grown slightly. I am feeding it every other day Goniopower brand food.

The fish quarantine tank:

I have three sail fins mollies and five blue / green Chromis fish.

The main tank is getting much closer and the plumbing from basement to main floor is getting close!

In this update I show off the new fish quarantine tank and my new coral. Also I show the status of the plumbing for my main tank.

I have put the rocks in!

Sand goes in tomorrow. The rocks cycled for over 2 months in a trash can.

The corals still have a month or so in quarantine, but they are doing well.

The fish are done with their quarantine and medicine tomorrow:

The fish are in the water!

All except one molly are visible.

I am using my dad's old aquaclear until I work out my plumbing kinks. Things I have learned from testing the plumbing to the basement sump are:

I need to lower the filter sock and the pipe that goes into it. After dropping 10 feet or so into water it is like Niagara falls.

I have two small leaks in the piping I need to fix and I need to install a anti siphon check valve after the return pump! I had to blow air into my return feed to keep the tank full lol.

The corals are doing great in the quarantine tank. I did lose the frog spawn. I believe now it was the hermits and not the shrimp that ate/damaged both heads until it died.

Here are some new additions to my fish quarantine tank.

I hope to work on mounting lights over my display tank this weekend.
