LEAK IN SUMP

Hey guys.

There is a very small leak at the bottom side of my stand. It's not the DT nor is it the intake or hose going back to DT. I'll take out the sump and inspect it. My confidence is high that the leak will indeed be in my acrylic 18" cube Trigger crystal sump.

Rather than repair it - I have read that is not the best route in the long run - I might just buy a new one. When it comes to swapping old with the new, as usual my immediate thoughts are simple. In this case, turn off everything, take out old sump and dump water from it into new sump and put back into place. It can't be that simple can it? Any advice, tips?

A looming larger issue might be why on earth is the sump leaking? I've had it for three years.

One should not take a leak in the sump... makes the skimmer go crazy

You could drain, seal and refill sealing will take a day or so to cure

Its an acrylic sump, it can only be repaired permanently with weld on. Silicone will work for short term but will fail eventually.

I have a 40g breeder turned into a sump, the back panel developed a crack, i think from the heater being too close. I removed it discarding all water inside-shopvac helped get out the last bit. Put a 20gal in as a temp sump and added water to the correct lvl. I then had 1/4" glass cut to the outside dimensions of the outside and glued it on with several tubes of silicone smeared all across the panel, did same to inside. This created a sandwich with the cracked piece in the middle. It has been about 1 yr and no leaks. My leak was only a drip every 5-10 sec.
