Would it be possible to have it set up so that when the controller detected a leak, it would shut off certain things? I am installing a HoB overflow and was thinking if I could use a leak sensor to detect if the syphon broke and the return pump was flooding the tank. I would want to set it so that the controller would shut off the return pump when the leak sensor went off

Hi shep!
What overflow are you going with?
I have been looking into this same thing.
The best idea i have come up with is a float switch to detect tank water level.
When is rises it would shut down the power to the returm pump through a "rib" relay.

You should be able to program this with an Apex, ReefKeeper, mor other controller using a leak detector or switch. I'd recommend and optical or float switch for detecting water level.

I'd recommend setting up an overflow that doesn't fail vs. this work around, but good luck.

You really need to stop worrying so much. I understand though. If the siphon breaks and the aqua lifter fails for whatever reason, water will not be going into the sump. The water that is in the return portion of the sump will go into the tank. That should not cause a flood. The aqualifter is built like a little tank. It may need to be cleaned from time to time.Buy a second one to have on hand for an emergency if it were to fail. They are extremely cheap.
What may cause a flood is if your ATO continuously dumps water into the sump which would put more water into your tank. That's where my concern would be.

I love my aqualifter!
True it does need to be cleaned but my failsafe is when the return pumps runs out of water. It shuts off.

Haha I went with the CPR continuous overflow. I like to plan for the worst, can't wait to get the sump up and running
