I just filled the tank and started running a FE test and am having a small leak at the gasket on the overflow box. Can you tell me how I need to install the rubber gasket? I have a feeling I might have it backwards.

This is a ghost overflow box. On the outside box, do the rubber gaskets go around the bulkhead pipe coming out of the interior box? i.e. flush against the back glass? Or do they go inside the exterior box sitting flush against the box with the nut tightened on top of it?

There is also another gasket on the inside of the tank which sits against the back glass between the glass and the interior overflow box

Gasket needs to go against the glass

There should be one gasket on the inside of the tank with the flange. The second gasket should be wedged between the tank and the overflow box. No gasket at the nut.

Like so? With the box sitting against the gasket? And there will no gasket inside the box between the box and the nut?

Switched the gaskets around and no leaks!! Now to fine tune the ghost overflow which seems to be harder than I thought. Then again a blind monkey has better DIY/plumbing skills than me so we shall see how long this takes!

Thanks again folks!
:D

Gasket always on the wet side (no matter what anybody says! ) LOL

I can see that for gaskets installed on the inside of the tank. But what I'm dealing with is in the outside overflow box. I would imagine the seal that the gasket provides should be on the dry side of the overflow box to prevent a leak outside the box. I had the gasket inside the box and it leaked. Switched it to the outside and leak stopped.

So the next question is (and I might as well throw it in here) - how long should I run the leak test? A couple of hours or more?
I ran mine until the tank reached operating temp. But, I'm not sure if temps were any influence. Just seemed logical.

I dumped a gallon of water in my overflow, an hour later felt for any water, and then went on my way :)
