Typically, I don't glue my PVC. I like to use petroleum jelly for several reasons:
1. It isn't permanent - if ever there is a reason to reconfigure plumbing, you can pull it apart and make changes.
2. Good lubricant - it makes it easy to slide pieces together and surprisingly, the pieces still require a lot of force to pull apart.
3. Good sealant - I've never had a leak with this method.
As it was mentioned above, slow drips sometimes are self-correcting due to salt creep. Personally, I'd rather correct the problem.
It would be helpful if you posted a picture(s). It's easier to make suggestions this way. Have you checked the obvious stuff?
- Is the leak coming from the elbow or perhaps it is traveling from somewhere else, perhaps the bulkhead?
- Have you remembered to use your bulkhead gaskets?
- Are the gaskets in the proper position (they need to be on the wet side of the bulkhead)?
