Today I was messing around in the sump and felt a slight zap. So I’m like what the heck, so on a hunch I pull one of the heaters out and sure enough, it’s leaking. I pull the second one, also leaking. I pull the third one and guess what? Yep, you guessed it, it’s a hat trick, folks. These are the Eheim Jager 300w heaters, 6 months old! Unbelievable.

I have 4 in my tanks throughout the house. 2 are 4 years old 1 is 2 years (need to replace). Other is spare back up.

In my experience they last of you don’t mess with them but when you get to moving them and cleaning them they break somewhat easily.

It's not like I broke the glass moving them or anything. Their seals up top didn't hold. They literally just sat in the sump.

I suspect they cut corners when they went from Ebo Jager to Eheim Jager.

Looks to be the case. I ran the original blue ebo jagers for years with no issue. I didn't expect to see this much difference in quality.

So send them back in for warranty. It looks like they have a 3 year warranty on them.

I never put the seals under water. They are never going to be totally water tight especially with the internals going through heating and cooling cycles. I think this leads to a lot of premature failures.

Well, here’s hoping Eheim support resolves this to my satisfaction. :D.

To replace the Eheims, I ended up grabbing three 300w Aqueon Pros at Petco. Desperate times…. They actually seem to be pretty good.

I had the same thing happen. Just bought another thought maybe it was a fluke guess not...........
