Welcome! I would recommend getting all the pieces of the puzzle before you put water in the tank.
Decide tank size and what type of tank you want. Research as much as you can before making a purchase. In the long run having everything ready to go before setup will reduce stress. And......

Welcome! I did the same thing, a lot of research before taking the plunge over 11 years ago. I still made mistakes along the way (and still do), but I'm always willing to learn! Do you have a good LFS (local fish store) to help? I was lucky. Worked with a great guy who helped me get things going in the right direction.
