So, I got a Yellow Tang last week, and he/she is now happily swimming around my Holding Tank and over the weekend under the blue lights, it looked almost gray. I just thought it was the lighting making it look that color.
This morning I had to go to my fish room much earlier than usual, tank lights were still off, but I turned on the light in the room and noticed my tang was almost black with a huge white stripe down the middle.
I got onto Google and learned that this is perfectly normal, that they change color with different lighting and at night they display a large white lateral stripe and the majority of their body turns gray. In all my research of this fish before I bought it, I never read that, or if I did, I forgot. I knew other fish change pretty drastically at night, but after this morning's reading, it is apparently more common than I realized!
This is one of the reasons I am glad I took up this hobby. I learn something nearly every day!
