Leather coral puffed up to 3x normal size

I've had a Devil's Hand Leather in my tank for about 4 weeks now. During the past few days, it has doubled (if not tripled) in size and looks like an overstuffed pillow. It has also changed color. Is this normal? Attached are before and after photos. Thanks!
