Leather coral questions

Hi R2Rers!

I recently got a piece of leather coral colony and I have a few questions:

1) is this a devil's hand leather?
2) I did some research and I know leather shed its skin, I am seeing some string attached to the surface right now, is it shedding the skin?

Yes leathers will shed. I have had some that shed part of its skin. Other have completely shed over and over. I have one now that never sheds. I think it has to do with too strong a light compared to where it came from. I can have 2 side by side, one sheds while the other does not.

Yes. That looks like a devils hand to me. It is common For them to shed and look like poo for a few days while doing so. Then they bounce back looking full and expanded out.
