Leather Coral Sick

so I got this leather coral last night, put it in the tank and it was going great thismorning however I moved it this afternoon to try to give it more space and it’s polips haven’t opened back up, I think in the process of moving it the torch coral stung it does anyone have ideas on what to do?
Parameters are all good, no fish attacking it

I just adjusted the flow removed a transparent substance from the coral and the coral seems to be a little happier

I onlt keep soft corals in my reed and to me it looks fine. Soft corals will stay closed for up to a week or even more sometimes after moving and the stress of going from shop to home. Be aware to that they like to shed their mucus layer which cleanses the coral of debris and toxins. They can stay shut for a few days during that too. If you notice "melting" or vlackening thats not a good sign and you should do a water change immediately...good luck

I repositioned one of mine 4 weeks ago and really ticked it off and it’s just now starting to open again. I also now see it’s new so it may take some time for it to settle.

Leathers are tough as nails. If you've already moved it away from the torch, great. If not, then it's a good idea to do so.

Once you get it a good distance away from the torch or any other corals (a healthy leather can grow a good 8-12" in diameter in a year) just leave it be. It'll open up in a few days.

Even when it's completely happy, my leather will close up for 1-2 days. Then open for 2-3 weeks. Then close for 1-2 days. Then open for 2-3 weeks.

Each time it opens back up it's a little bigger in diameter.

And as it gets larger, the growth spurts become spaced further and further apart: closed for 1-2 days open for 3-5 weeks. Etc.

I've even completely cut the head off when trimming it down just to see what would happen. The stub was all shriveled and as unhappy as heck. Sure enough though, 1-2 weeks later, new polyps appeared on the top (cut surface). Now, 2 months later, the new top is a good 3" in diameter.

How far from the torch do you think it should be? The best spot I found it's a few inches away but I could move the torch it it brings its stingers back

My leathers can get like that by just giving them the stink eye!

I believe it’s fine.

If the torches sweepers can reach it, or anything else, they’re in danger.

I've not had a torch, so I can't say for sure.

Just do a search both here on R2R and Google to see how long torch mesenterial filaments (aka 'sweepers') are then place the torch about 1-2" further away than that.
