Leather coral splitting?

Has anyone else ever had a leather coral split like this? Never seen this before. Had this guy since he was a tiny frag.

I can’t say I’ve ever personally had one of that variety do that, but as easily as they heal, I would be tempted to take a sharp scalpel and help it along— right down to the plug; then take a hammer and chisel and split the plug, too.
