Leather ID?

Can anyone tell me what this is? I'm fearful it's one of those corals that pop off branches and will spread all over my tank....

That's looks like capnella/nepthea (Kenya tree). If it is then having it grow everywhere is a legit concern.

Soft corals/leathers are corals without a skeleton. Kenya trees are constructed of a fibrous tissue.

Contrary to popular belief, not all "tree corals" are Kenya tree corals. There is even a difference between capnella trees.

If you decide you don't want it (especially if it's a tree) and you're in the US, I would gladly pay to have you ship it to me priority mail. Tree corals are relatively tough, and as long as you give them sufficient water, they usually make it. And if they partly die off they grow back.

Let me know. I'd be glad to take it off your hands because it may be a species of nepthea I'm looking for but I have no way to know for sure if I can't get a good look at it (and sometimes not even then).

I'd have to look at in person. That's the only way I'd have a chance at knowing what it was. Unless you can get a super clear high detailed image. Even then it's difficult to know.

Oh man... it looks way better on my phone. Looks like butt on a PC.

I think I might just watch it. I've had one before and I know the polyps dangle for a little bit before the drop off. Easy enough to clean up if you catch it early. I work at home and can watch it pretty closely.

Yeah... I went back and looked at the website where i bought it. The description just said "Hairy finger leather" and there was no picture. Upon rechecking the site just now I see it definitely says capnella.... Guess I should pay closer attention the the scientific names. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.
