As the lights came on this morning I noticed my leather was looking limp and I spotted two damaged areas. The lower "wound" looks like there is a cut.

Alkalinity is a bit low at 7.7, temperature is a bit high running between 79 and 81, pH is bottoming out around 7.8, salinity is a little low at 1.024. I've been doing auto water changes and it looks like I may need to tweak the calibration a bit (I wonder if the high summer temperatures might have affected the calibration).

There have been no new corals/ fish/ invertebrates added in months, the tank is 2.5 years old and has been stable and thriving. I do not have central air but I've been running window A/C and fans to try and keep the tank cool.

Should I be worried? Does anyone know what might causes these "wounds?"

Thanks!

Probably just self fragmenting, one of the means of reproduction. Basically they just start to tear apart slowly.

I would look at night for Nudibranch that eat Sacropytons though, just to be on the safe side. This Nudibranch type will leave a trail of particles that resembles saw dust.

One of my leathers just did this. Had a hole started and then just spit out part of itself. Propagating I guess. It was probably bothered by my carpet anemone that had been living near it for a while.

If it is black, then begin to worry. That is dead tissue. The white, green, yellow, will usually heal.

+1 my toadstool is currently doing the same thing :)

Whew. Thanks for the quick replies. I've been struggling to keep the temperature down so I've been watching closely for probably. Glad I haven't found any yet.

Beginning of molt/shed. Little pieces should drop off creating new babies which will grow quickly.
