I asked this question in another thread and it got buried and never was answered.

I planning LEDs for a 180 (6 foot) tank. It will consist of 3 18 inch panels with each panel having 48 LEDs. My main focus will be Royal Blue and Cool White but I want to add Violet, Red, Green, and Blue/Cyan/Turq for color accent for acros. What mix of these colors would you suggest?

Thanx

I am by no means an expert but here's my opinion I have a 90 gallon tank with 2 20" heatsinks each with 44 LEDs. I have a 1:1 ratio of RBS to CW I then added 3 blue , 2 violet, 1 red, and 1 green and 2 neutral whites, and 2 moonlights to each heatsink. The reds, green and whites are on one dimmer and royal blue, blue and violet on the other.Personally I'm going to redo my fixture here shortly I'm going to go with 12 white an 2 red on a dimmer, 6 blues 2 greens, 2 Cyans, and 4 violets on another dimmer, then 12 royal blues and 2 violets on the last dimmer (each set of 44 LEDs each goes on a fixture)
I really like the pop of the violet and the reds and green add pops to reds, yellows, and blues it seems.. Great thing about DIY is TE ability to change it once you notice what you need!

H@rry, as you know, mine are not DIY, so take this for what it is worth. This is the light combination on a single Radion:

8x
Cree XP-G Cool White LEDs run at 5W each

8x
Cree XP-E Blue LEDs run at 3W each

10x
Cree XP-E Royal Blue LEDs run at 3W each

4x
Cree XP-E Green LEDs run at 3W each
4x
Osram Oslon SSL Hyper Red LEDs run at 3W each
Obviously, some of the colors you mention are not represented here, but I wanted to use this to make a point. For me to get the color I want, more 14-20kk than 10-12kk, I have turned both blue channels all the way up, the whites half-way down, as well as the reds and greens. Too many Cool Whites seem to wash out the colors in my tank. So, if I were to build a static unit, using only the above I would hold back on the whites. My likely percentages would be:

20W Cool Whites (21%)
24W Blue (25%)
30W Royal (31%)
6W Green (~12%)
6W Red (~12%)

Note that this will give you a color closer to Tomoko's than to your current colors. I know this is probably not what you asked for, but hope this has some value for you.

I am new to LED and acro's, I just added my first two acros to the tank last night. My LED fixture consists of 40 Cree LED's 2 Red 2 Green and 2 blue. The remainder are Royal Blue and Cool white. There are 18 RB and 2 Blue on one channel, the colors and whites are on the other.

I chose this fixture based on research and cost, I hope it was a good choice. ;)

Let me offer this H@rry, if you want to come by the house, we can put the lights in demo mode, you can move the sliders around until you find a color you like, then we can map that to numbers of leds of each color (excluding cyan/turquoise).

Loaded Question Like who is better looking Ginger or Mary Ann there will be a lot of debate.

Here is my mix but its based primarily on 3 700mA 54v drivers

24 XT-E Royal Blue Bin D36/7

6 XP-E Blue

15 XT-E Cool White 7.5K not the more yellow 5.5K

This is pretty close to a Radion 400 watt MH in Looks and Performance.

To this on my tank I added two Greens two Reds and 12 UV 410nm...The look is about the same except certain pigments in the coral were highlighted.

If you like the look of the 14K Ushio add 10 slightly warmer Cool Whites.

Like any recipe for Chili or Cheesecake the basics will be the same with lots of opinion on which look is best. This to me looks great and beats most if not all factory fixtures in looks and all in efficiency...PAR/Total Amp.

Based on the fact that Ginger always looked better, what would recommend?

My choice is the above mix. Looks and Performance ;)...

I do like upping the PAR for 4-6 hours with 10 of the High Noon Cool Whites. Look is the Ushio v Radium but I'm at work then.

IMO the basic and standard layout seems to be 2:1 blue to white with 2-3 of each additional color.... Red, green/cyan, uv per 55 total LEDs.

This looks like a good i to put on each side of my 90.
Would you mind sharing your wiring schematic and drivers info?
