I've got a NanoBox Duo retrofit for a Biocube 32. I put a thin piece of diffuser material (Rosco Cinegel #3026, only $12) inside the splash guard and it has really made a huge difference on the disco effect, especially with the blue spectrum turned down.

Nice work

I thought the ‘disco effect’ was when you see the colors from the individual red green blue LEDs because they don’t merge together?

What I see in the video I would call shimmer. I’m actually looking forward to getting my diffuser off my LEDs because right now I don’t have that shimmer, but think it looks pretty beautiful.

You see it all over the natural reefs, particularly shallow reefs, and it’s always been one of my favorite ‘aesthetic’ parts about scuba diving I enjoy

I can see some disco effect but also like the shimmer look you are now missing. To each his own.

I think this is a great post and nice visual people could refer to if they wanted to see the effect a diffuser might have. The side by side definitely shows the shimmer being muted down by the diffuser (which I prefer personally). I agree the effect on the color separation (aka "disco ball") isn't as noticeable but I wouldn't doubt the diffuser does contribute some better blending. Some fixtures are worse than others on color separation, so it may all be relative anyway.

Look at the white round frag disk in the lower middle of the tank. In the before video you can clearly see a lot of the disco effect of separate leds pinpoint colors dancing on that disc. They seem much more blended in the after video.

Great video side by side like that! Nice to see it in this layout. Thank you!

I like the shimmer you had. I don’t see any disco effect....
Hi guys thanks for your replies. I think the gif quality and distance from the sand is what's leading to not being able to see the disco effect. Here's a better example:
