Electric bill charge comparison since going to LEDs,

2009 2010
April 109 105
May 114 87
June 144 137
July 184 169

General downward trend with no change in house temp and the 2010 June/July has been a hot one here. Was running 192watts PC, now 144 watts LED.

(Had to edit post wouldn't hold excel format)

Huh yeah, def a downward trend. That may bill difference was really a nice one! If they could all be that drastic of a difference itd be awesome! But over a yrs time you're def saving a good chunk of money. I can't wait for leds on my tank. Just waiting for some extra cash. You should post up your totals after a year though to see the diff over the yrs time

That is $160/yr - very nice! Has the unit price of electricity stayed the same in your area? Units of electricity used may be more informative than $.

Just some thoughts to consider:

A 48 watt difference in your example is not a lot of wattage difference ... it's less than burning a 100 watt bulb in a lamp you forgot to turn off. I think people that run multiple metal halides at 250 or 400 Watts for each will potentially be the ones that will see the savings vs. your example.

You did this as well, but a remider that one would also have to look at a year over year comparison with their electric bill as there are differences with the time of year with running furnaces on natural gas vs A/C on electric or a dehumidifier that runs more in the spring and summer vs. a dry furnace winter air, etc. Some just look at their last bill and say it went down is all.

Also some will have to run their heaters in their tank more as the heat from their metal halides actually help to keep the temps up in their tanks and with the cooler LED's they will have a power increase from their heaters to compensate for this.

I can't wait to see the difference on my new build. Over my 125 gallon, I'm running 750 watts of MH and 432 watts of T5. I'll be running 450 watts of LED and 468 watts of T5 over my 180. This seems like a promising trend, especially considering how much brighter the LEDs are over the halides.

I went from 1200w with a 3x250w mh driven by m80 ballasts (360w ea) with three fans to keep it cool to 450w of led. My bills went from around 220-240 per month to around 140-160 per month. I don't think you see a ton of savings until you get to larger tank's. But the bulb replacement savings is there : )
