Just set up a new tank... 24x24x30 deep blue 74 gallon tower...

I am a big fan of LED and really want to stick with them as I have had success in the past with shallower tanks..

I have a few stipulations unfortunately..
-must be able to mount on tank rim
-budget is 500 or less...

I am considering hydra HD 26 or maxspect razor 20.5". Either may not cover the whole tank. Leaning toward hydra, so I can add a second down the road if needed...

Any other suggestions or thoughts??

personally i dont find the maxspects to have enough light penetration for a tank that deep but it all depends on what kind of corals you plan on keeping

Should check into the vertex illumina 360 fixtures, i think it would look good over your tank

I'd probably need enough for SPS maybe 1/2 way down the tank... then I would fill in with chalice, mushrooms, LPS etc... lower light stuff... if I could get away with SPS on the top 15" I'd be good...

Trick is gonna be getting enough to bottom without frying the top

Thanks for the tips yall... I'm leaning toward the hydra 26hd.. then I can add a second one down the road if needed for coverage...

Have you checked out Orphek's DIF-100? I don't own any, but was looking at them for my new tank.

My reef is 27 inches deep and I use a combo of reef breeders and black box reef breeder style lights. All have optics removed and sitting about 6 inches above the water under a canopy. 90 percent blue channel and 60 percent white channel. I get 140 to 160 par at the sand bed almost everywhere. I have acros in the top half all over and other sps all around including Monti right shown to the sandbed. Lps and zoas are fine anywhere but I keep those on the bottom 25 percent. Actually have some Hawkins acro only a few inches from the sand bed as well.

I have orphek Atlantic over my frag tank and I'm not a huge fan of the over all spectrum. It's a very white light even at 50 percent white channel and 100 percent blue channel. At that setting with light about 16 inches off the water I get about 250 par about a foot under the surface. So not a strong light IMHO either, and that one has the optics on it.
