Based off the published data of area covered I felt it would give me the best par over the entire bottom of the tank. I also did not want a lot of light spread beyond top of display. How did you come up with that plan? Or more correctly why.
Good research then! Well done.Based off the published data of area covered I felt it would give me the best par over the entire bottom of the tank. I also did not want a lot of light spread beyond top of display.
20% of 100 inches maybe? Lol
They are the v2.1b I have Duncans and zoa growing near the top but also have monti and acros growing near and on the bottom. with my setup biggest reasons for placement of corals is water movement. I have found all my corals will acclimate to the lighting given time. It can be hard finding an area for some sps when you have lots of water movement but most adjust to that also. Before I lost my torch in my move, person dropped tub on asphalt, it was in a very aggressive water movement area and growing like crazy. My son thought it was was excessive at first. He now has his torch in a very high flow area and is complaining that he is going to have to frag it because it has grown so large, so quickly. His lighting is ATI 8 t5 fixture.Good research then! Well done.
If it's working for you I wouldn't change a thing.I assume I'm doing something wrong based on what I've read in this post and I realiz I haven't dropped 10g on a light system ( yet) though - is running a Current Ramp Pro on my 75 mixed which sits on top of the frame. I've had zero issues w/ the corals.
I also let them dictate where they're comfortable i.e. - gorgonian started bleaching so I moved him down and he's done great.
Is this completely off base?
I absolutely meant 20" haha. Running at 10/10/40/10/40/40 for my first week with the lights which show 150 par most places in the tank. I really like the color at 20/20/100/25/100/100 which is 350 par everywhere which is what I hope to get to eventually. Maybe a 100% all channels high noon thing and fade that more blueish color through the day. I will say that 100% all channels is 450-500 par is my tank which is a bit muchIsn't this supposed to be 20"? He also runs all of his channels at 100%. I am working my way to his recommendation but will have to get a different hanging system to get that kind of height. Once I can raise it I will try to work all of my channels up to 100%.
That's pretty much what I figured, it always struck me that your corals, inverts, fish etc would indicate when something is wrong. If it's working for you I wouldn't change a thing.
I use the same lights. If you don't mind me asking, what's your setting? And how high are they from the water line?![]()

Back in October when I first got them.

I run both white and blue at 100% for 12 hours and they're 3 inches above.I should also add that due to it being a ramp lighting system, it's not at 100% for all 12 hours. It's at 100% at what would be peak sunlight phase the ramps back down into the eventual moonlight phaseSooooooooooI run both white and blue at 100% for 12 hours and they're 3 inches above.

Very much determined by the tank inhabitants. My SPS has been responding well to the higher lighting that I have been turning up. So many variants involved in individual tanks makes it hard for one approach to fit all.
