Hey I just bought a new sicce am650 led reef light and put it over my 55 gallon aquarium. The problem is that the led light is right next to my bed and on the light Manuel there is a warning that the light may be harmful to your eyes and cause blindness. My mother is worried that the light could hurt my Eyes. I need some way to contain the light to just in the tank and not be seen from on my bed. ( ps. my tank is 55 gallons and has no top/canopy and the light is hanging 8 inches above the tank.) I was thinking about making some thing out off like reflictive pannels to keep the light contained in the system and also intensify the light. I need help quick!

Is it spilling so much light into the room that you can't just not look into it?

I'm guessing it's got a 120° spread...if so, I'm guessing you'll have to get the fixture down to about 3" to 3.5" off the water surface before you'd start getting most of the light into the tank. Try it and see what you think - at the very least you'll be wasting less light! ;)

For perspective, at 8" from the water your light should give a spread of about 28" over a tank that's only 12" wide. B)

The Manuel requires the fixture to be at least 6 inches away from the water surface. I only have 1 light and cant afprd for another so lowering the light will cause the light to not cover my entire tank but just the center. (Ps. If u didn't know I am looking for a long term solution) Thanks dude for responding!

Why not set the timer so the light turns off around the time you normally go to bed?

Sounds to simple to me....

So... You're asking for suggestions on how you can make the light not be seen for your bed yet you just posted you want to see it from you're bed???

Think he want to see the tank from his bed, not the light spill lol.
Could you get a canopy for the tank?

a) move the bed
b) move the tank
c) sleep in another room

my first suggestion was sunglasses, but castaway beat me to it ;)

I'm sure it would be if you look directly into the light for a certain length of time. I have had led lights for years and can see just fine. No need to look directly into the light. I look at my aquarium.

Just don't stare directly into your lights...
or Lower them.
As well as dont look into blue light too long, that is what ruins your retina.

You can use standard black vinyl (or construction paper) and attach to the light with magnets, dropping the paper several inches lower than the light. I used this briefly when I first set up the LEDs because I have them high enough that I was looking directly into the lights when trying to view the tank.

floating canopy! Is simple to make and could use llight materials.
