Hello
I am starting a new reef tank (47 gal). My new light set up is AL Prime 16 HD Reef LED. Can anyone suggest the light settings (%s) that are best?
Thank you!

A good starting spot are the presets on AI website. Find a tank similar to your size and pick that one. I think Karen’s tank is that size if I’m not wrong. WWC also has a few presets for our light as well. I don’t remember if BRS does or not. It’s pretty easy. You just download the file on your phone or tablet and it will automatically show up in your app. Super easy I think they’re call .aip files if I’m not mistaken.

there’s also websites that have almost every preset you could imagine
Pirates of the carribean
Ab+
All the ones people talk about all the time. But I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to download them. Maybe you’re more technically inclined than me though

@Ariel'sMom and @mexi757 as @GatorGreg pointed out. The AI website has their signature series settings. World Wide Coral also has presets you can download. You can also go “old school” and BRS did a video with the Prime and the AB+ setting. My only concern with theirs is that they overdrive certain channels

Just be aware that some of the presets are being used on established tanks. When starting out you want to go low % intensity, predominantly blues and increase slowly to your desired endpoint. Nuisance algae loves light and immature substrates.

True I forgot to mention that. I did actually use the acclimation setting

Not to be a downer, just keep in mind that's a big tank for a nano tank light.
Depending how deep & wide your tank is, you might find it challenging providing enough PAR to the bottom and sides of the tank.

That AI Prime is an extremely powerful light. I agree that having ONE won’t be enough for this setup though. OP may need one or two more lights for full coverage.

What is tank dimensions and what coral do you have in the tank?

I only have soft corals, pulsing Xenias, toadstool, finger leather and Anthelia. I’m upgrading from 29 gallon to 47 gallon. So right now, my new tank is cycling. I’ll be transferring the corals over. I’ve only had my old tank for 18 months but excited to be moving up. But setting up the new light system seems a bit tricky and I want to get it right before adding anything. Don’t want to jeopardize my little guys!

I do have 2. Sorry I didn’t mention it!
Ok- two will work. I know the excitement.
Start them when you transfer fish with:
cool white 12
Blue 70
purple 65
UV 75
red 3
green 2

After 5-7 days ramp up to your desired settings. The settings above will keep current coral very happy. The only tricky part is establishing a satisfactory water flow which should be that bad

Thank you so much! Should I not have the lights on while it’s cycling? I’m trying to have lighting perfect before moving forward.

you Can run lights and get familiar with running two in sync. First light is often called the parents and any others are "child"
