Hello all,
Need recommendations as what to do with my LED lights in my canopy.

The canopy came with the setup and it matches and i like it, but i cannot seem to get the lights positioned high enough in the canopy where they should be. Based on the pics would you recommend i cut out 3 holes in the canopy for each light and bracket them in that way. Only issue with that is i would have to remove the lights just to open the canopy!

has anyone had to deal with this?

Suggestions?

Thanks

My personal recommendation would be to mount the lights above the canopy as you said (cutting holes and attaching via L bracket) and cut a new smaller feed door you can pop open to feed the fish. For any large maintenance, you'll still have to remove the canopy.

Thanks Andrew, i didn't think about a feed door as well and that would put my lights at about 14 inches which should be good to go!

I think it will look very strange having the lights above the canopy. Also, you’d have to cut the holes pretty large to avoid the canopy from blocking light. I feel like it may end up with 3 beams of light in the tank with a lot of dark areas. I have my LEDS mounted in a canopy. A couple inches higher would probably be better but it doesn’t really cause any issues.

I just removed the top of my canopy, braced it appropriately, added a mesh screen on top, and mounted the lights on the braces. Gives me exactly 9" of space between light and water. The mesh also acts as a diffuser which is a plus imo.

Nice idea chef. I like that better than the cut-outs I've been considering

I think it worked out pretty well, plus the top of the canopy is still usable if I need to put it back on. Just 6 or so screws removed and all was good.
