Hello neighbor club. I am wondering about LEDs wattage I am putting 2 140 watt led units on my red sea 65g I know it comes out to be approx 4 watts a gallon but my question is, will this be comparable to metal halides? I am wanting sps mainly with some Lps

You are going to have way too much light for that tank I have a 180 and Im running about 2 watts per gal. and keeping sps just fine

I boy sounds pretty unanimous that that's way to much light. I wished I'd checked on here first I guess being that it's 36 long they told me I needed 2

You can always overdue it and turn them down if it's dimmable. If not, then that is way too much.

1W/gallon for leds is more than ull need to grow any corals. And even then u might bleach some chalices.

It really depends on lenses depth of ur tank and ur desires. I have 600 watts of LEDs over my 144 half circle and its just perfect. Mind you though that not all of these have lenses. You wouldn't believe what a difference it makes. I have a par meter to verify my numbers and in a 24" deep tank I've got 180 par at sand bed and 550 par at top of tank corals.

I'm not wanting to sound rude by saying this. But you cannot use par readings on LED's. They do not know yet how to measure what we would call par with LEDs.
