Any thoughts on the Marineland LED lighting system for $399? I would be looking at the 48 inch double light model for my 75gal. I prob won't get into real complex stuff, just basic corals at first. Is there something else out there for $399 that would be better and/or would this brand/model be decent for my needs?

Brian

You could have a decent cree setup from rapid led for $400, I used 1" square aluminum tubing from lowes and two fans. It's alot cheaper than the heat sinks from heatsink usa and it runs at 85 degrees.

Those marineland LED fixtures aren't meant for coral systems. They don't put out much light at all. Look at better brand name fixtures (Ecotech, AI, etc.) or DIY.

But they say reef capable...lol.

I like reefkoi stuff myself (evolutions)

I believe the "double brights" are meant for FOWLR systems - not for reef.

"These LED Lights are only for Fish Only marine tanks or Freshwater low light planted tanks (crypts, anubis, java fern etc). It could also be an excellent light for a refugium system, but is not intended as a reef lighting system."

Marineland does have "reef leds": 48" - 60" 46 - white 8 -blue 3340 -lumens 48.5" x 5.25" x 1.75"

Odyssea (aqua-traders) carries a new 48" "reef led" fixture with virtually the same specs for $149.00.
(I think they copied the Marineland fixture)

fixture Size: 48.00" x 5.00" x 1.00" (Add 0.65" in height with bracket installed)

LEDs Count: 54
3340 Lumens
Super energy efficient 1 watt HQ LEDs
46x 10,000K LEDs
8x Actinic 460nm LEDs
Use 54 watts

I personally have several odyssea MH/T5 fixtures and despite what ppl say - they're usually a pretty good value. Can't vouch for their leds though.
