I will be buying a frag tank(for swaps) thats 18x18x6 and is 9gal want to light with leds but dont know enough about them any suggestions.
I want led that make my corals pop but not look unrealistic

For the best colour pop use the Cree Royal Blue with the bin D316

For you cool white ensure you get a cooler bin 7.5k instead of a warmer 5.5K.

A two or three Royal blue to every cool white will work quite well.

You may want to put the blues and whites on separate dimmable drivers so you can adjust the colour perfectly.

do blue and white enough. i'm a noob and was told add with a violet may be better.

your best bet is to go with AI or radions , Acan leds are crap and a ton of money and are really ecotech fixtures that are junk

We've experimented with the violet and the look is good. However the intensity of the Cree Royal Blue is much better.

The bottom line is the chlorophyll A&B in the zooanthelle algae are receptive to 420-470nm for growth. Any fixture with this as a predominant wavelength will grow coral.

The Royal Blue D316 is 447nm which falls perfectly in both of their sweet spots and still gives that actinic pop to the coral colours. Most cool white LEDs also have a very nice 450nm spike.

Apollo does add a violet to their mix of royal blue and the look is good along with great growth and PAR.

There is a lot of talk about different LEDs. Acan will not specify bins but the proof is in the pudding and after seeing both the Apollo and Acan Fixtures over tanks at frag swaps their look is great and their quality is much better than those generic Chinese fixtures.
