I currently have a 2 bulb t5 (one daytime one blue) above a 72 g at 36" wide. It does a great job in lighting the tank but I would like to supplement it with a LED system... The question I have currently is does any one have any experience with the Chinese black boxes from ebay and corals?

Currently I have pretty much a FOWLR with two small zoa polyps and was wondering if I add a LED box to my current t5s if it would do any good or be a waste of money being they are the 'black boxes'. I like the benefits and light dispersion of the t5s but the shimmer and colors of the LEDs..

I don't know anyone personally who has experience with the "black boxes". I myself know nothing about them other than that they get bashed a lot.

I have done a little bit of research on LED's and cost however, about two years ago now, and think the pricing sweet spot then might have been the Reef Radiance. Opinions will vary obviously.

A T5HO LED combo is getting more and more popular I think.

We'll see what the experts say....

I run an AquaticLife XS LEDs w/ AquaticLife quad T5 and I love it. I'm not familiar with the "Black Boxes' but you get what you pay for. Get a name brand for piece of mind. IMHO

I run the "Black Boxes" and love them. It might be nice to have more control-ability but for the cost they are GREAT! However they are not all the same. If you decide to try them out make sure that the unit your purchase are using a led layout that you like, uses 3w LEd chips and quality LED chips, like Bridgelux or Cree. I went with these : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Full-Spectr...433320?hash=item2c78741068:g:lE8AAOSwQTVV~N62
