leds and t5s

You know thats a good question and one thing you don't hear people talking about ....following

I run a sfiligoi genesis t5/led (8 t5's and 3 rows led's) fixture over my 300 and a sunpower w/reefbrite strip over my 90 .....

My LFS runs AI's LEDs on one tank, t5s alone on one tank, MH and LED on one tank, and t5's and LEDs on another tank, and ReefBright power strip LEDs on 2 other coral tanks lol Looks wise, I like the AI and the ReefBright tanks the best (possibly the RB better even personally, seems to have more shimmer, and better coloring although I know the AIs can be tweeked color wise I haven't seen the color like the RB tank has from AI modules).

Personally I am switching from 10 t'5s over my 180 to probably 4 t5's and 3 DIY led modules soon, may add a 4th eventually but the way my scape is I think I can get away with 3 and supplement with the t5's.

My 180 is running three of the Reef Filtration Gen2 150w LED fixtures along with a NEP with 12x39w T5.

There are a few guys in my club who are using T5s along with leds to help round out the spectrum. I have seen it and think its a good idea since LEDs are such a narrow band in the color spectrum. The are missing the reds etc and the corals end up paying in the end.
Before you pull the trigger on LEDs do a little research on the bad side of them. I know a few people who have been very unhappyb with the LEDs and are going back to mh or T5. I know prime that are happy with there leds as well so just do your research before spending.
Look up narrow bandwidth on leds or color problems with leds both in reef tanks. go from there. In sure you will find lots of info.
I'm not trying to discourage you but just let you know that LEDs are not the holy grail of light. I think the technology is still not there yet. Companies like ecotec and orphek are close with the full spectrum but its still not there yet imho.

I started out with a LED T5 DIY Combo

Once I ran out of T5 Bulbs I felt it would less expensive over time to go 100% LED

In both cases I liked the results results and not considering operating costs there is nothing wrong with a Hybred LED / T5 Combo

I'm running an ai sol blue, 2 ATI purple plus 24" and 3 violet leds over my frag tank. I love it! If my canopy on my main tank was set up different I would have done a similar set up on it! (I tried, doesn't work due to open top, just didn't look good outside the tank, inside looked great though)

I ran aquatinics t5 with reef brites, but now run all led

I run 2 power brites along with my 20" current nova extreme pro. I am looking for a way to add 2 more or a different set up that would allow me to add other options. If anyone knows of any 20" or smaller please let me know.

Innovative Marine just came out with a new line of LEDs strips. They come in 18, 24, 36, and 48". I think they are around 1 watt per inch and dimmabale. I was thinking about getting the 36" one for a new build. I'm going to wait until the reviews are out.
