Who is the expert on leds that will work well on a turf scrubber? Not looking to build one if possible to buy one already made by Mfg.
Bill:wave:

Bill look in to GE grow led bulbs. There used for hydroponic should be around $20 up. Depending on the wattage. I have one I use to grow Orchid. This will work on what you are looking for but not on corals. Water proof to. But I wouldn't submerged it under water. I'll try to find a link for you.

3W reds/blues. No one really makes em name brand at least. Like 5red/1rb is the ratio most use. Try looking up turbos aquatics he sells the acrylic box scrubbers with leds on them. Do not try the par bulbs with red/blues they do not work well for this.

I tried the ReefBreeders Fuge LED light on my scrubber and had better results with a regular CFL bulb.

OK Thank you for the reply's and guess what Zef said may be something to try or like Mike said and just build one, Guess i'll wait and see who else has ideas...
Bill

Do you have any thoughts as to why this is? Looking to do an ATS in the near future

Because they are 1w LEDs. Bill you will need 6 to 1 red to blue 3w LEDs some people are having good luck with the UFO grow lights the 3 watts ones. If you need any pictures of my scrubber or any questions pm you cell and ill send the I have a turbo aquatics one

Thanks for your help and i will wait to hear from you..

Which design are you going to build, Bill? I'm thinking about doing an upflow AS in a 20g tall tank.

Tank i bought from Dale already has one incorporated in the plumbing, The type powered by return pump Via a manifold and not sure i will leave it or not.

so ive been thinking of making one for my tank. been having a nitrate issue. What do you guys use for the screen material?

It's used for needle point and can be found at hobby lobby in a variety of sizes to fit your needs, There are a variety of ways to build one and light it from what i've seen so far. Check out floydrturbo.com he sells them pre made but they are $$$$$$$$$$$

OK cool. hopefully my walmart has it. I was planning to get a piece of acrylic and basically make a sluice box out of it. then haveaway to just lay the screen on it and let the water flow over the top of it with some of those LED hydroponics lights or some grow light shooting down on it. this would all be just above the water level in my sump.

Keys to a good algae scrubber are super high par and tons of oxygen. Which is why the waterfalls are popular amongst lgae scrubbers. That thin layer of high water flow over the screen allows the algae to get tons of oxygen.

OK cool. that sorta what I was thinking. looking at the par 30 type bulbs. 2 or three of them.

how much wattage in LED do you have on yours ?

Oh BTW, I hooked up my T-5's last night.. glad Idid.

BIll sorry for the hijack.

I havent found a par 30 bulb i like ive tried the ones from lowes and bknapp tried the reefbreeders red/blue. Neither worked good. I like using either 26w cfl lowest kelvin which is like 2600 i think or red(660nm)/blue 3w leds.

Also i like running the combo of skimmer ,scrubber and pellets. As you wont need s many pellets running and they also make it so pellets dont use up as fast. Its really the ultimate in filtration. Slightly more work having to clean a screen instead of just dumping skimmer cup but you can safely run at 0.00 phos this way. The scrubber will take up all the excess nit/phos. It also absorbs nitrite and ammonia as well as copper and a bunch of other bad stuff from what ive read which is why its used in large scale water filtration plants.
