So I was looking at getting leds for my 40 breeder mixed reef. Right now I have two t5 bulbs and I want to look at putting leds on because one I like technology and I like all the different color combos you can make to the way you like and that your corals and fish like. So I was wondering if I can use leds with a canopy? I would like to be able to use some radions or ai primes but I don't think you can use them with a canopy?

I am starting an 80g Deep Blue build and will be reusing my 24" Reefbreeder led fixture, but I will be adding a 48" T5 retrofit to the front and backside which should help with light spread. I plan on building a canopy to house these fixtures and it will have an open top. I may have a removable front panel due to the control panel on the led fixture, but as this is already programmed, I shouldn't need to access it. I would think you should be able to use an led in a canopy.

Yeah I've thought about using strips with my t5's but was also looking at replacing it all together with leds.

I'm using AI's in canopy that I built with a t5 retro kit just leave top open for fans

Just make sure there is good ventilation in the canopy. High humidity and or warm temps can be a electronics killer.

yes. a hole saw, or a deep enough canopy is all you need to put them in. how tall is the canopy is the big question
I did the reverse. the black boxes sit on top of the black canopy. because I have a narrow canopy.

My LED's are in a canopy with the top open so all of them can "breathe." The top is not seen because it's up too high.

Okay interesting here's what my canopy looks like.
There's 5 inches from the canopy to the water so I'm sort of worried about there not being enough room and the lights being to close to the water.

Yes that would be close for LEDs

Might be able to use led strip though ive used them before with t5's that close to tank

yup

Budget buget budget.
Current orbit. or two used ones from ebay. or one new version..its the thinnest strip
a 32 in sbreeflight w the lenses pulled too. would work. or 2 16 black boxes. on top.

Try the Giesemann Pulzar. I have two running in one of their enclosed hoods. They are designed to be run in that environment.

After talking and much convincing to my girlfriend. I'm taking the canopy off and doing two radions xr15 G4 pros. Just trying to see what top to do to keep fish from jumping. Any top suggestions?
