I have a matted file fish (Leif) in quarantine. He’s been doing fine, tolerating copper and eating well. When I went to do a water change yesterday, I noticed the water was a bit cool/cold. Turns out the heater plug had gotten bumped and the temperature had dropped to 65º F!
I’m not sure exactly when it happened, but I hadn’t noticed any difference in his behavior. I’m sure the fact that the cooling likely happened gradually helped as well. I have since warmed him up and he’s still doing fine with no signs that he’s any worse for the wear.
I just thought I’d post this as an example that, while not ideal, our livestock can tolerate less-than-optimal conditions. If the power goes out, a gradual drop in temperature will likely not be the end of your tank, as long as it’s not too low.
