Hey guys,

so I came home today to find my Lemon Tang in my QT dead. He’s been eating and acting completely normal. I added him on 2/13 and then some wrasses (Orange back, lubbucks, and a flasher. Thought I noticed some flukes on him so I dosed prazipro.

After 5 days I did my water change and dosed prazipro again however my orang back wrasse jumped out during this time. So after another water change, I added carbon and waited a few day then purchased a new orange back wrasse to replace the old one. I then dosed a third round of prazipro just in case. Today was my water change day and I found him dead. All the wrasses look fine.

it’s a 20 gallon QT with a hang on the back filter, hydor powerhead pointed star the surface and a foam filterwith an air line. During prazipro treatment I added an additional air line and stone for more oxygen. Again, everything else looks good. I just changed the water and added a carbon bag. Was gonna start copper power in a few days.

Here are some pictures. Let me know if you notice anything. I freshwater dipped him after finding him dead to check for flukes but didn’t see any drop off. Could three doses of prazipro caused him to die?

Sorry for your loss :(

It's possible the fish had a tremendous number of flukes on its gills. When dosing the Prazi, the flukes spasm and could have done some damage to the gills ability to transpire O2.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I mean the first dose of prazipro was on 2/18. Seems like a long time to live with damaged gills. I’m more concerned about anything killing the wrasses at this point. Gonna start copper power tomorrow. I’m letting the carbon remove any residual prazi out tonight.

I've come to the conclusion that quarantine is just tough on fish, for a number of reasons. I've lost far more fish in quarantine than in my display and I think I'm doing all the right things.

I've had the opposite experience when QTing fish. This fish has a large dark area around gills that may be gill hemorrhage which occurs with velvet and other diseases like brooklynella.
