Leopard wrasse acting ill..but what?

Well, by the time I got home yesterday it was too far gone to save. I did move it and dosed the antiobiotic trifecta but by bedtime it was gone. Maybe if I had been able to get home sooner I could have helped but hard to say.

Unfortunately one of my Blue Stars was also dead when I got home yesterday. They had been perfectly healthy and I don't know what happened other than the powerhead in there was really too strong, so maybe it got hurt somehow. I was real bummed about that. Again, if I had gotten home sooner maybe I could have done something.

Anyway, of five Potter's I received a week ago I'm down to one. It appears healthy and is starting to eat some LRS Reef Frenzy, though spits more than it eats so far. It breaths a bit fast, but I cut the powerhead after the Blue Star fatality.

I should have a couple smaller powerheads coming tomorrow, so I'll put one of those in instead, hopefully they are better suited to the small tank and provide more circulation.

I'm certainly not out of the woods yet with the remaining Potters but so far it's doing alright.

If I don't get this one successfully through QT and into the display I give up for the forseeable future on this particular Leopard. I hope my other Blue Star is ok, I didn't see it today but that's not necessarily uncommon.

I can’t imagine the powerhead being strong enough to kill it.... Leopards are just very, very susceptible to shipping stress I think :/ Potter’s are definitely worse than most other species.

I know a Potter's is on your want list as well, so if you ever give it a shot, I wish you luck. It's a heartbreaking endeavor!

I think I'm only going to have one if it happens into my LFS... as much as I'd love to have one, I get way too emotional over these things That's why I gave up on QT'ing my own copperband and am ordering one from humblefish...

Sorry to hear that. All your struggles with potters is making me think again about trying them myself.

I would say don't let my failures deter you, maybe there's something I could have done differently, but I've gotten some other more sensitive fish through QT just fine. Maybe there's a better source for Potter's than I've used. I sure don't think I could have done much too differently when I've had them come in DOA and/or die within 18 hours of arrival. I do think they just stress themselves to death more or less.

I have a Copperband in QT right now.....so far so good, but I know they can turn on you at the drop of a hat too.

I can’t seem to keep them eating through QT. I had one that started off great, taking mysis like a champ...then developed a bacterial infection and just stopped eating and never went back. The two others picked at foods but never really ate heartily and then stopped. It seems like as soon as they decide not to eat they go downhill really fast.

That's my fear, that it stops eating. So far mine likes Masstick the best, but also eats mysis. I actually bought it from my LFS with a little white spot/bubble near it's dorsal fin, it kind of ballooned up a little bigger over the first week in QT, now it has gone away.

I'm more worried about the eventual transition to the display if it makes it that far, that it will go on a hunger strike. I'm also not sure if Copperbands should be put through copper treatment and all that or not?

I actually bought it from my LFS with a little white spot/bubble near it's dorsal fin, it kind of ballooned up a little bigger over the first week in QT, now it has gone away.

If it is any consolation, that seems to happen frequently on copperband butterflies and it isn't anything worth worrying about. It's usually caused by a virus called Lymphocystis, maintaining good water parameters will help the fish's immune system to fight it off.

Two ccbs I took through QT had the same thing and it cleared up after a few weeks.

Well... I won’t risk putting them in my tank without treatment after everything I went through to get my tank “parasite free”

I’d rather pay a little more and let the expert of all experts do it for me [emoji23] My cb will be shipped to me next week and I can’t tell you how satisfying it will be to just plop him in my tank...

Started the remaining Potter's on the path to full therapeutic copper last night (and the copperband in a separate QT). It's starting to gain more vibrant color (has been pale since it arrived). It's very interested in all food, but still does more spitting than eating, but does eat some. I offered up some Masstick again today and it did peck at that several times. It's quite active and keeping regular/normal hours. Fingers crossed! 10th day in QT today.
