I want a leopard wrasse can someone share some experience with me ? I know they will need a live food source and a sand bed to sleep as well as a covered tank . Care seems similar to mandarins

Yep you got it. Fine sand. Few inches of it. Lots of pods. Lid. Regular feedings. And that's it!

My sand is a little more on the course side will it still work?
I have reef flakes ( advertised 3mm grain size, about 1/8” ) my two leopards have been fine with this sand, never injured in the two years I’ve had them

I really wanted a leopard wrasse as well and there was a beautiful ornate leopard at my LFS last week, but like you I wasn't confident I could keep him, so I went with the tried and true six-line... Still kind of regret it, but didn't want to kill a beautiful fish.

A bit different that mandarins. Mandarins generally handle shipping and initial acclimation better, but are much harder to feed. Leopards don't ship well and initial acclimation can be tricky (particularly aggression from other fish), but they adapt to frozen foods much more easily. Leopards do need a sand bed. doesn't have to be the really fine stuff, so something like reef floor works fine.

They need a fine sand bed (2-3"). You want to get one that is eating prepared foods if possible (mine from TSM Aquatics came eating frozen and pellets). If they're not preconditioned (i.e. hiding in the sandbed/emerging at night), you may want to add copepods/amphipods to the tank.
