I bought a kole tang, hippo tang, 2 chalk bass, an algae blenny, and a leopard wrasse and put them in the 29 gallon qt tank yesterday. I added prazipro to treat for any problems they may have had. I know that moving fish into a tank from stores and adding meds could suppress their appetite some and stress them out so i fed him some live brine shrimp today. I think he ate 1 maybe 2 of them. Came back few hours later and he was dead just floating in the current. All of the other fish look fine and are acting normal. I didnt see any marks or anything else on him. Any ideas? Thanks

What kind of leopard?

Could have been low oxygen with prazi. Do you have heavy agitation at surface? Leopards are also hard to adapt to captivity. Do you know how long LFS had the fish prior to purchase?

I have a hang on back filter on the tank and a powerhead towards the bottom of the tank for extra bottom movement. I am not sure exactly what type he was or how long the fish store had it. i just got him and the other fish yesterday. The other fish appear to be acting normal. I just finished a round of qt on another batch of fish i had to pull out if my display tank using the same setup but i didnt use the prazipro because they were sick with velvet i think. Went straight for copper on that one and my leopard wrasse died overnight in the qt tank as well on that go around.

Well it could have been the same issue in copper you want heavy agitation at surface. Could have been the sudden exposure to copper depending on how quickly you upped it and what type you were using. My power heads in QTs are only about 2" below surface tipped upwards.

Ok. I just moved the powerhead to the surface so its moving the water around a little bit more up there. Not quite sure what happened, well as long as the other fish keep looking good, ill continue with the prazipro and repeat it before i start the copper. Unless there is something i am missing.

Nope that's all you can do.

Also leopards just tend to do what you've described. (I keep several) but I'm used to seeing this after the fish are shipped. But if the LFS just got the fish within last day or two it was recently shipped.

Well that makes me feel a little better. I've been reading on them since and it looks like they can be a "difficult"fish to keep. I dont think i will try again. I will just get these 5 fish through quarantine to add to my other 10 fish, then introduce them all into the display at once. Then ill concentrate on the corals.
