Had this guy for a long time... not sure what might be going on. Removed from display and is now in qt with kanaplex. Possible my huge christmas wrasse beat him up but not sure. Anything else i should do? Eye seems to keep bludging more each day

Don't have neoplex or furan 2.

How do i use the epson salt to reduce swelling?
1 tablespoon per 5 gallons. Use only pure epsom salt (organic unscented).

I’d do a freshwater dip in a dark bucket to look for flukes as a possible cause as well and source neoplex as soon as possible.

You really think flukes.. wouldn't all my fish show signs? Not to mention i havee had this leopard for years

You never know. They may have a controlled amount of them and one got in to the eye. Tanks can have flukes for years that don’t cause serious problems. They often harm fish that are new and weaker the most. A dip won’t kill or harm a healthy fish, and then you’d know what best to treat to fix the underlying problem. Just my .02

I gave some epson salt.

May fresh water dip tomorrow..

Also did 50% water change

Found some paragaurd.. should i use that?

I would hold off on paraguard for now. It's not very useful IMO.

Let us know the result of the dip.

Fresh water dipped for 6 min nothing came off. Eye was noticeably larger before the dip along with a black dot. After the dip the eye is less swelled up and black spot is gone... didn't see anything in the dip water.

I would do epsom salt again in 24 hours or so for the swelling. Report back to us. Glad it’s improved a bit!

I’m wondering if it’s possibly a physical injury. Maybe it hit something while diving into the sand at night? Do you have an anemone in the tank? I had something similar looking happen when a fish went into my magnifica chasing food. In my case it died 2 days later.

I have RBTA's but really don't think that was the issue... It most likely was damage done by my 5 or 6in christmas wrasse... is what i'm thinking I removed him from the display also put him in the frag tank..

Good luck. Hopefully it being healthy prior to the injury will give it a shot. Is it still eating? Sucks to lose a healthy leopard. I have a Choati and blue star that are by far my favorite fish in the tank.

I have been using masstick to feed but not sure how much he is eating or if at all, been working long days and cant really monitor him too well...just hope that hes pecking at it if he can. Had to come home for lunch break just to do the freshwater dip. Yea it does suck, even more so those two wrasses grew up together the christmas used to be the smallest!

Maybe try some live brine if you have access to it just to see if it eats. Even though it’s not very nutritious, not much will turn down live brine

Well his eye looks like it ruptured or deflated not too sure... He has been eating which is nice. He just may be a 1 eyed wrasse for the rest of his time with me as long as infection doesnt set in. I will keep changing up his water to make it clean as possible and hope he pulls through.

Last update on this guy.

Happy to say he has been returned to the main display, hes happy and eating. He did lose the eye but he is not phased by it. I'm just glad I was able to same him, hopefully for more years to come.
