I know these need a fairly deep sand bed to hide/sleep. I've only got about an inch or two and part of the tank is bare (front center because of the ph's). Question is will a leopard learn where deep sand is if I add a few inches of sand to a back corner that is fairly contained, about 6" x 12"? Tank is 24" x 48". Or will the leopard try diving where it is still shallow? TIA

They will find the deeper sand area in time.

I have the same problem in my 240. The sand is pretty thin in spots, but my leopard wrasse always seems to find a deep enough spot.
Having said that I did get up early one morning ( way before any lights were on) and saw the wrasse's body completely out of the sand and only his eyes covered.
Thought he was dead, but he wasn't, just sleeping.
