I’ve had this wrasse for 9 months or so. About two months ago I noticed she was getting really fat. Is it possible she is pregnant? I haven’t noticed her poop but I don’t sit and watch all day long.

I thought fish lay eggs? I know there are mouthbrooders, but that still wouldn't apply here. I wonder is she has an intestinal blockage. If so I heard thawed peas work well for that

Yeah the but hole doesn’t look right. I’ll try some peas. She is still eating good.

Lover ur leopard my fav fish I have hard time keeping that one. But I let's see if @OrionN can tell. He's my go to with wrasses.

The first two picture of your Meleagris wrasse actually show obstruction or tumor (causing obstruction) instead of a fat wrasse. The swelling is very abnormal. The sight and shadow of the dorsal of the wrasse show that she actually thin rather than fat. My guess is that she have bowel obstruction. Unless you do something for her, she will not live. The problem is I don't know what you can do for her.
Maybe some wrasse or disease specialist can help.

Thanks. I do have a QT running. Should I pull her out tonight?

I don't think you need to QT her. I don't think it is commutable so no need to QT her. I am sorry but I don't know how to unobstructed her.

that’s a really interesting cure. hopefully, it’s a bad case of constipation over a tumor.

got me wondering though how long various marine fish (specifically those in the hobby trade), stay gravid before dispelling eggs. my guess is 2-3 weeks. any time after that period, then one can rule out bloat due to egg production.

Can fish be egg bound like reptiles too?

Fish reabsorb eggs that was not spawned. They neet to have correct stimulation to spawn. Repetiles and birds have internal fertilization and will lay eggs regardless of fertilization or not. They just need correct stimulation to mate, not to lay eggs. If they did not mate, then the eggs won't hatch due to lack of fertilization.

I used to have cichlids that would get that problem in freshwater tanks as they are diggers and would swallow gravel. Peas usually helped but sometimes fish just cannot be saved I usually just pull the fish out and put it in another tank to stop it from dying in the main tank. It can either be a very slow or a very fast death depending on the blockage.
