Leopard wrasse seasonal?

But the plus one in that, most leopards don't transition in our tanks. Some might, but unlikely unless they are the same species.

That was my fear of getting different species, one from each species would turn male & fight to death which is something I don't want. I've also read that females don't change into male unless multiple are present, but I'm not really worried about them not changing. I like both female & male colors on bipartus & melagris.

If one changes, more then likely the others won't. It's buying 2 males that causes problems. Again highly unlikely since all are born female and rarely change, but it can happen.

Also, does anyone know if I can have multiple of the same species or multiple but of different species? I know you usually can't have 2 males of the same species, but what if I had happened to have 2 males of different species?

you can have multiple if your tank is big enough.

You could just buy this one... TSM QT's everything and won't ship a fish that isn't eating. I know they ship poor but probably be fine because TSM sent me ONE fish in like 2 gallons of water...

Very rarely will two specimens of leopards transition. Usually even if you have a group of different species, the most dominant will transition and the rest will stay female. The males are much more likely to keep the females from transitioning. @SaltyT may be able to explain this in better depth than I can as I have only got 1 leopard wrasse at the moment (I’m hoping to eventually get 3 different species - 1 Blue star, 1 Black and a Choati).

My best “Explanation” I can give is between my two Halichoeres but even then, it’s not a great one as my Radiant is supposedly transitional and my jade is a definite transitional male.

Reefco is close to you. They have them a lot but ask for what you want to be ordered they should help you. Also TSM aquatics but they aren’t bringing in a lot. Also if you have FB Joel Phillips will get anything you want. TSM and Joel are south Jersey. Something fish get leopards in also. Talk to the owner lady for what your looking for. Those are only places in nj area I deal with. If you decide on mail order Among the reef and premier reef. Contact premier reef for what you want. He also loves leopards. Both mail order places know wrasse and how to prep them and ship for survival

Blue stars and potters will probably transition. Melagris 50/50. Blacks viviens and some others not documentation of them transitioning in captivity. I believe if I’m groups one may change. I wanted to test it with choats but was sent one male.

I think I'll ask Reefco to order some in for me. I think they get shipments on Wednesday so I'll find out if they have any then.

I recommend only one meleagris and get one blue star. Two melagris may become a problem. If you are willing to deal with a problem down the road the go for it but know the risk.
Reefco gets blue stars often and they just had a melagris but it sold. Fish delivery’s are wed and Saturday’s if they import that week. If you ever want to meet up at Reefco let me know. I work right down the road. If I’m not working I’m usually at Reefco lol

You are so close but yet so far away. Everyone I know is far except a few that are within 4 hours. We make trips a couple times a year for a weekend of fun.

I've been trying to find some leopard wrasses at some LFS' near me, but all of them have been out. I know I can order online, but I don't think they handle shipping well. Does anyone know if they get imported seasonally?

TSM aquatics has a blue star. Recommend you grab it before it’s gone. Eating and qt’ed

Quick question guys if my LFS does get one in today should I get it today or wait a few days & then get it? I read in one article to get the fish as soon as they arrive to the shop to reduce stress while others suggest waiting a few days to see if they survive the first few days after shipping.

There are benefits to both methods. If I'm buying from Petco, I'd rather the fish not touch their tanks if possible. If I'm buying from a trust LFS that I know has clean systems, I'd prefer they hold the fish for a week or two and make sure it's healthy and eating.
