Hi, I have a 55g tank with a sandbed and a few other peaceful fish. What things do I need to know about the leopard wrasse before I choose to buy it? I have one available at a LFS so am trying to figure out asap while they still have him/her. What considerations should I make?

Thanks!

What species? Is he eating at the LFS? What fish do you have in your tank? They are peaceful fish but need a bit of encouragement to start eating.Do you have plenty of Pods in your tank?

Yeah I have not been to the LFS yet but they are good with the fish I have got from them and will make sure he is eating when I go there. I got a pair of clowns, royal gramma and a babyish scopus.

Seem OK tank-mates. But that scopes get pretty huge. Much more than can be keep in a 55 gal tank.
Yes I know already got a friend who has a bigger tank in a few years that could take him if I don’t upgrade myself.

Make sure it’s eating and has been there for a while. It’s critical to get a healthy specimen for leopard wrasse

Black Leopard is the smallest of the Leopards. They are beautiful and unique. I did not find them any harder to keep or more aggressive than other leopard (unlike the Star Leopard)

I love Wrasses and have a few in my tank. The black wrasse is one of my favorites with it's black base and white specs.

Like others have said, a healthy specimen that eats is your best bet. Once established they are great citizens and don't really get aggressive towards any other fish even another Wrasse - in my experience with 6 wrasses in my tank.
