So I got my leopard about a month ago. Lfs has melanurus on sale this weekend for $20. The tank is a 45 gallon cube. Would they be ok in the same tank together? Also are the melanurus picky eaters?

Someone will answer with more knowledge then me.
I tried two melanurus in a 100 gallon and they became evil. Others I know had the same problem but many people have luck. Mine mostly ate amphipods and copepods but they shouldn’t be picky eaters at all.

I would think that tank will be smal when the fish is grown
Wrasse are jumpers keep a tight lid.

Yes! I have a screen top :)

45 gallons is a very small volume to keep a leopard fed with another wrasse with a similar appetite. I would not add personally.

I would look at a flasher wrasse instead or smaller fairy wrasse species if wanted another wrasse.

I had a leopard wrasse and a red-lined wrasse (Halichoeres biocellatus) in a 40 breeder for 6 months with no issues. They have been in a 120-gallon tank for the last 1.5ish years with no problems, but there are additional wrasses that may be helping to diffuse any aggression.

Don’t flashers etc also have the same diet as the leopard?

I have a leopard wrasse with a Christmas wrasse with no problems very similar situation

I think a 45 gal cube is too small for either and especially for both wrasse. Melanurus wrasse can be aggressive especially in small tank like that. I would not keep either in a 45 gal cube like Your’s.

Tanks too small for both. Stick with the leopard. I have a 200g and typically let them go to a larger tank when they get big and start over with a smaller one. Halichoerus wrasse I mean, leopard wrasse don't get too big.

It’s too late for the leopard. He’s already in there. Should be fine, the tanks very established with lr from a 12 year old reef tank. Fuge, and feeding the tank phyto. There’s huge pods everywhere.
