I have a colony of leptastrea that is slightly larger than a golf ball. If I place it directly on the sand bed, will it continue to grow in a ball shape like a brain coral? Or does it need a hard surface to encrust?

soooo.... i have a few chunks about that size that I chipped off of a rock. Thhey're just lying on the sandbed now, and appear to actually grow under the sand which is interesting. They form a. shell about 1/4 thick, so it really wants to be growing on a rock. My guess is that it;ll grow around the ball but then die off on the bottom, or spread out if its not disturbed.

Thank you! That is exactly what I needed to know. Guess I will find a suitable rock for it to encrust then.
