I'm considering getting a frag of Jack-O- Lantern Leptoseris, but I don't have a lot of experience with SPS corals. I've read some people think of them as LPS. How difficult are they?

We've had great success with ours that we purchased from Jason. It prefers medium flow and low -med light. High light tends to bleach it unless it's diffused. One of our colonies is on a frag rack under (6) t5's however, the tank is a half round so the light though bright is indirect. The other is on the sand bed, all the way to the side of the tank under a frag rack under a (2) 150 MH bulbs (4) t5 fixture. Eyes and skeleton are bright on both

How fast has it grown for you?

It is a pretty good grower once it gets very happy. The one in our half round getting the diffused light is growing quicker. The one on the substrate has slowed as the minimal amount of lighting and tight space has caused it's growth to slow dramatically but that's a good thing in that tank!

I've got 4 different leptos. They are easy to keep. Just pay attention to what they are telling you. My green, jack-o-lantern, and molten leptos do well in med light and medium flow. I also have a blue eye that does not tolerate direct light well at all. If its not in a semi-shaded area it will start to bleach out, even right on the substrate.

How finicky are they about pH? I don't have dosers or a refugium, so I'd guess it fluctuates. Right now it's 8.3, but I've seen it as low as 7.8.

Many things can cause PH to have a slight swing. Your lights off at night will cause a slight drop, a closed up house in the winter with the heat on will cause it to drop a bit. I wouldn't be concerned at 7.8. Our leptos have shown no signs of any stress from a slight drop in PH. We have a few different ones - the JF Jack-O-Lantern, JF Molten Lava and WWC Orange.

We have over 20 different types at the store. They're low light and moderate flow for the most part(under higher flow their "feelers" will come out and it wont look as nice)

20 different types! So glad i saw this, making me get more motivated to get my new build up and wet

Can different leptos touch each other without them fighting? I have a JF jack-o-lantern that is on a smaller rock and I want to add a WWC toxic waste to the other side of the rock and have them grow into each other to cover it.

Some of them will touch and be OK but in my experience one either out grows the other or they sting each other.
I do know some people that put 3-4 to a plug and they do fine as far as ive seen

Super old thread but did these do ok together? I’m getting a Jack o lantern and I want to grow it next to my Mr. Freeze

I've keeping a neon green Leptoseris for about 5 months before buying a small $100 frag of Jack'O-Lantern.
I didn't know it was Jack-O until I found this thread but could tell it was Lepto. Just trying to find out if it can sit next to my neon green Lepto, was also wondering if they can be grafted :)

I have a neon green, jack o lantern, and 24k gold and all three fight!!! The green variety is winning. It grows over! Currently using a chisel to slow it down.

I just picked one of these up at the LFS Black Friday sale. From my research and talking with the LFS, you're more likely to bleach them out with higher light than underlight them, and they're not too picky about flow. So I'm starting mine on a frag rock on the sandbed to see how it does.
